ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

A Brief History of Our School

"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success." - Henry Ford

The Montessori School of Celebration began when a group of Celebration parents, led by Karin and Lance Boyer, came together in the summer of 1977 with the common goal of providing a Montessori school for their children and for the community at large. Helen DeVere and Karen Simon, from the Orlando Montessori Teacher Education Institute, joined them that same year and the group worked diligently to make the goal a reality. On June 14th, 1999 the school opened its doors for the Summer School session, with two classrooms for 3-6 year old children. In August, 2001, the school went through its first expansion and began a Lower Elementary classroom with 6-9 year old children. In 2004, we moved into a new, larger building where we have two 3-6 year old classrooms, one Lower Elementary classroom (6-9 year olds), one Upper Elementary classroom (9-12 year olds) and a growing Adolescent Program classroom (12-16 year olds).

Our Mission Statement

The Montessori School of Celebration, in following the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, assists each child in developing within him/herself the habits, attitudes, skills, appreciation, and ideas which are essential for a lifetime of creative learning. The program is individualized for each child. It encourages respect for all people and for all aspects of our world. MSC enables children to be active participants in their own learning, as they construct themselves toward reaching their full potential, academically and personally.

At MSC, parents are involved and dedicated partners working together with the teachers and the staff to optimize the learning experience for their children. We provide opportunities for parents to meet and work with other parents and with teachers, who have as their common goal the interests and needs of the students.
